Humboldt's boys opened Class 3A District Tournament play at home Monday night (Feb. 18) by turning back Algona, 70-54 in the Wildcat gym.
Michael Orness scored 16 points, Nick Heider added 15, Brady Ross made 13 and Bryan Larson had 12 to lead the Wildcats, who kept their season alive and avenged a 57-55 overtime loss to the Bulldogs back on Jan. 29 on the same floor. Sawyer Frideres scored 13 points, Justin Raymond made 11 and Luke TerHark had nine for Algona.
Humboldt, now 16-6 overall, will meet Clear Lake in a district final at Algona on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Clear Lake won their district opener Monday night, 75-71 over Gilbert. The other half of the substate saw Iowa Falls-Alden beating Webster City and Waverly-Shell Rock stopping Charles City.
