The Humboldt County UDMO office has some new faces doing outreach work for the citizens of the county.
Mary Ohrtman is the director of the Humboldt County Outreach Center, located on the third floor of the Humboldt Count Courthouse. Ohrtman is also the director for Webster, Hamilton and Wright Counties.
The Humboldt County UDMO Outreach Specialist is Sherry Carlson, while Becky Jensen is the office aide.
Ohrtman moved to Fort Dodge a year ago from Pocahontas County. Prior to joining UDMO, she worked in Buena Vista County Public Health for 10 years.
Carlson, an Austin, TX, native, has lived in the Humboldt area for the past 22 years. She has a dog grooming business that she’ll continue to do on the weekends.
“I’m excited to be back into the community and look forward to helping people,” Carlson said.
Jensen moved to Humboldt in June of 2011 from Pocahontas. As an office aide, she works 20 hours a week and finds the work very rewarding.
“It’s very rewarding knowing you are able to offer support to individuals or families in crisis. It takes a lot of compassion, but at the end of the day you know you’ve helped someone even if it was just by listening and giving suggestions,” Jensen said.
The UDMO office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12:30-1).
