Humboldt's girls have advanced six events to the state track and field championships in Des Moines (May 16-18) after competing in a state qualifying meet in Spirit Lake on May 9. The Wildcats had three automatic qualifiers and three at-large events based on next best times and performances statewide.
The Wildcats will send Erica Lane to state in the discus (116-7), Sam Larson in the 3,000-meters (10:55) and the 4x800 relay (Brittney Nilles, April Jones, Sam Larson and Maddie Kampen). Lane and Larson were second in their events while the 4x800 relay won their race. The top two place winners in each event advance to state. In addition, Kaitlyn Jensen advances in the 100-meter hurdles. She was fourth Thursday night in 16.59 seconds. Larson was third in the 1,500-meters in 5:10.66, good enough to make the state field. The shuttle hurdle relay of Maggy Duffield, Erica Lane, Brittney Nilles and Jensen also advanced. Their time of 1:10.45 earned fourth-place in Thursday's tough qualifying meet at Spirit Lake.
The Humboldt boys will be represented by Jacob Miller in the 3,200-meters. Miller ran third in Thursday's meet at Spirit Lake in 10:22.81. He enters state with the 18th-best time statewide.
