Humboldt's baseball season came to an end Tuesday night (July 23)in an 8-3 loss to Boone in Class 3A District tournament final at Boone. Boone (22-10) will now host Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Wednesday night in a substate final in Boone. ADM beat Nevada 11-1 in five innings Monday night in another district final.
The game, which was postponed in the bottom of the third inning Monday night due to a severe thunderstorm with Boone leading 6-0, saw the Toreadors add two more runs in the sixth when the contest resumed Tuesday. Brenden Schnell took the loss on the mound for Humboldt, which finishes its season with an overall record of 22-7. HHS totaled eight hits in the game. HUMBOLDT TURNS BACK CADETS, 10-8
The Humboldt High School baseball team advanced into a Class 3A District Tournament final by turning back the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets, 10-8 Friday night (July 19) in a tourney opener in Boone. The Wildcats, now 22-6 overall, will return to Boone on Monday, July 22, to face Boone in a district final. Boone advanced by beating Webster City, 11-2.
The Wildcats took a 5-0 lead on IF-A, then had to battle back after the Cadets tied the game at 8-8 after the sixth inning. Humboldt scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead for good. The Wildcats totaled eight hits. Brenden Schnell earned the win on the mound in relief of starter Ben Jacobson.
In the other half of the substate bracket, ADM of Adel shutout Perry 8-0 and Nevada topped Gilbert, 5-3. Nevada meets ADM at Adel on July 22 in a district final. A substate final is slated for July 24 in Boone.
