Two Humboldt youths were killed and three others injured in an early morning, single-vehicle crash three miles east of Livermore on Saturday, Aug. 17.
According to the report from Iowa State Patrol Trooper Mark Anderson, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Cody Weisbrich, 18, Humboldt, was northbound on Rose Avenue, just south of the intersection of 130th Street, about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, when he lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle dropped off the west edge of the roadway and then rolled over on the roadway, sliding to a stop on its roof, south of 130th Street on Rose Avenue.
Cody Schachtner, 18, Humboldt, died at the scene, 19-year-old Joshua Naeve of Humboldt, was taken to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) by HCMH Ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Landon Nokleby, 19, Humboldt, was taken by ambulance to HCMH and then Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, where he is recovering from his injuries.
Both Weisbirch and Tyler Zaugg, 19, Humboldt, were treated at HCMH for injuries and released.
The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and any possible charges are pending.
A celebration of the life of Joshua Naeve will be held Thursday from 3-6 p.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Cody Schachtner will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt, with visitation Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the church.
