The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) was called to the Twin Rivers Elementary School, 200 College Ave., Bode, early Monday morning for a suspected intruder.
According to Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger, a janitor arrived at the school at 6:30 a.m. on Monday and heard an unknown person running down the hall. The janitor immediately alerted authorities and left the building for a brief time to notify Twin Rivers Principal Don Hasenkamp, who lives nearby.
All available sheriff’s deputies along with a member of the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division and members of the Humboldt Police Department arrived at the scene and surrounded the building. It was determined that the suspect had escaped the premises.
It was determined that a thief or thieves had gained access to the school sometime prior to 6:30 a.m. Monday through a broken glass window to the art room. The only known items taken were a teacher’s laptop computer that was on a desk in a classroom, and one student’s laptop that had been placed in a cabinet where the units are charged when not in use.
It was not immediately known if the break-in was related to other break-ins and thefts that have occurred around the area during the past several weeks.
