Sam Larson took first-place to lead the Humboldt High girls' cross country team to a runner-up finish in the Algona Invitational Monday night (Sept. 30). Larson won the race in 15:10. Maddie Kampen was seventh in 15:48 and Sophia Luu 13th in 16:28. Kate Curran ran 25th, McKennan Myott 29th, Avery Terwilliger 41st and Kessa Kuyper 49th. Humboldt had 75 team points. Spencer scored 67 for first-place. Charles City was third with 80.
Jacob Miller ran 26th in 18:06 to pace the Humboldt boys. Michael Bowden was 34th in 18:21. Connor Fiddler ran 39th, Nick Ellis 60th, Reed Burres 65th, Demetrius Friedl 77th and Jon Schaffer finished out the varsity. The Wildcats were eighth out of 15 teams.

HUMBOLDT SWEEPS TEAM TITLES AT IOWA FALLS
Humboldt's varsity cross country teams swept to team titles in the Iowa Falls Invitational held Thursday (Sept. 26). The Wildcat girls were led by Sam Larson and Maddie Kampen, who ran 1-2 to lead all runners. Sophia Luu finished fifth, followed by Kate Curran who was sixth and Avery Terwilliger who was seventh. The Wildcat boys were paced by Jacob Miller, who was second overall in 17:50. Michael Bowden was third, followed by Connor Fiddler in sixth place, Nick Ellis who was seventh and Reed Burres who ran ninth. Humboldt runs in the Algona Invitational on Monday, Sept. 30.
GIRLS WIN OWN INVITATIONAL TITLE, BOYS 10TH
Humboldt's varsity girls' cross country team won the team title of their own meet Monday night (Sept. 23). The Wildcats edged Pocahontas Area via the tie-breaker to take the top spot. Each team had 70 points. Sam Larson paced the Wildcats girls by running second in 15:39.62. Maddie Kampen was sixth in 16:31.52 while Kate Curran ran 17th. Avery Terwilliger was 21st, Sophia Luu 24th, Kessa Kuyper 41st and McKennan Myott 45th.
The Humboldt boys were 10th overall. Boone (44) and Algona (62) finished first and second, respectively. Michael Bowden was 31st to pace the Wildcat boys in 18:54.79. Jake Miller was 53rd, Demetrius Friedl 55th, Logan Vitzthum 75th, Reed Burres 7th, Connor Fiddler 87th, and Will Pogge 91st.
