Troop transport once again, 60 years later

Lincoln Mason decided to combine two things dear to his heart with his latest endeavor. First, a love for vintage automobiles. The ones that could tell quite a story if they could only talk. Second, was his patriotic spirit. Trying to help some veterans in need of a lift. Lincoln has taken a 1953 Army Jeep, an M37 weapons transport carrier, and is in the process of getting it restored and back in tip-top shape. The goal is to have the Jeep ready to transport some of the Humboldt/Dakota American Legion and VFW Honor Guard in the annual 4th of July parade next week. To read more about the project and the process, pick up a copy of this week's Humboldt Independent, or better yet, subscribe to the print or digital electronic versions of the paper by clicking on the link at the top of the page.

New housing development planned in south central Humboldt

Another new housing development may be springing up in the southern portion of Humboldt, if plans by the Humboldt County Housing Development Corporation are realized. At Monday’s Humboldt City Council meeting, City Administrator Aaron Burnett, a member of the Humboldt County Housing Development Corp., announced that the organization had closed on the purchase of property encompassing the trailer park located at the south end of 5th Street South, on the west side of the street. The housing development corporation purchased the property for $63,000 from John Dunphy. “The intent is to develop that area into a much needed sector of housing in Humboldt. Several housing needs assessments as well as conversations with home buyers and relators have shown a real need for homes priced in the $100,000 to $200,000 range," Burnett said.
