COOK OF THE WEEK - ICE CREAM RECIPES

July is National Ice Cream Month. In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July “National Ice Cream Month” and the third Sunday in July “National Ice Cream Day.” Noting that 90 percent of the population enjoys ice cream on a regular basis, President Reagan encouraged the American population to observe these events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.” This week’s cook column is dedicated to ice cream and some recipes for it and that use it.

Clark ‘okay’ if NFL doesn't call

Dallas Clark loves being back in north central Iowa. But if the phone continues to remain silent for the Livermore native, an unsigned, 10-year veteran of the National Football League, he just might be back on a permanent basis. Clark had a busy weekend last week. For the second straight year, he and a group of former players conducted the Clark Brothers Football Camp held at the Humboldt High School practice facility. “It’s great to be back and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” Clark said prior to the start of Saturday’s first day of camp. Clark, a former Twin River Valley High School standout and University of Iowa all-American, played one year (2012) for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a nine-year stint with the Indianapolis Colts, where he was named to the Pro Bowl squad in 2009. He won a Super Bowl ring in 2007 for the Colts.
