A fire Sunday evening totaled the house, but the owners were able to get out in time. The Humboldt Fire Department was paged out at 9:01 p.m. on Sunday night, Dec.15, to 907 3rd Avenue North in Humboldt, the home of Delmar (Keel) and Marlene Zinnel. Their son, Kevin, said his father called him and his brother, Keel, and said he smelled smoke. Keel and his wife, Ann, arrived first at the house and Keel tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. Kevin and Tony Hosford arrived and the group was able to get Marlene out of the house. She suffered a cut on her leg. “As I drove up to the house I could see flames coming out the back. That’s when I called 9-1-1 and got the fire department rolling,” Kevin, an EMT with the Humboldt Ambulance Service, said. Fire Chief Tony Hosford said when firefighters arrived, flames were coming out of the east wall. Hosford said the fire started in the bathroom in the outer wall and spread up into the attic.
