Wildcat girls, boys run at Buena Vista Indoor open

The indoor facility at the Buena Vista University campus in Storm Lake proved to be the perfect setting for the Humboldt High girl/boy track teams last Friday (Mar. 21).Sam Larson won the 1,500-meters in 5:14.21 to lead the Humboldt girls, who also got a runner-up finish from the medley relay of Emily Hughes, Maddie Kampen, Beth Duffield and Larson. The Wildcat 4x800 relay also finished second. April Jones, Olivia Hildreth, Duffield and Kampen comprised the relay.Humboldt's boys got a sixth-place finish from its shuttle hurdle relay unit and Reed Burres was seventh in the 400-meters. Tony Nielsen ran seventh in the 100-meters and Brady Ross was seventh in the shot put.See complete story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. HHS girls compete in Wartburg indoor track

The Humboldt High girls' track team competed in a 39-team indoor meet at Waverly on the Wartburg campus Tuesday night (Mar. 18) and had several high finishes.Senior Sam Larson won the 3,000-meters to lead Humboldt. Humboldt also got top-four finishes in the 4x800 relay, distance medley relay and 4x200 relay. The Wildcats had several individuals finish in the top eight. COOK OF THE WEEK - ELLEN SIEMENS

Traveling has been one of Ellen Siemens’ favorite things to do with her husband. They’ve been to Hawaii several times and for their 50th anniversary, they enjoyed an Alaskan tour. Ellen and Frank Siemens have celebrated 57 years of married life together. For their 55th anniversary, they enjoyed a train ride out west. Ellen and Frank live on a farm outside of Renwick. Ellen is a homemaker who is semi-retired and working part time at Boone Valley Implement in Renwick. Frank is a farmer and is fortunate to have a great hired man that helps him. Ellen grew up in Brookville, IN, and graduated from Whitewater High School in Indiana, and then attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO. Frank grew up in Goldfield, graduating from Boone Valley High School and then did his tour of duty in the United States Army. They met while at Ozark Christian. They were married in 1957. They have three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
