Bid of just over $2 million for Sumner Bridge

The Sumner Avenue Bridge construction project is a go after official action by the Humboldt City Council at their meeting Monday. The council approved a bid of $2,064,472.71 for construction of the bridge. The low bid of the four received came from Godbersen-Smith Construction of Ida Grove. The total project is expected to cost $2.3 million. Humboldt City Administrator Aaron Burnett is hopeful that work can begin on the bridge project by early next month. Still at issue are utilities that are contained within the existing bridge or in close proximity to the bridge. Burnett reported that MidAmerican Energy is ready to relocate gas lines. Work has been bid to remove phone lines buried in conduit under the existing sidewalk. “We have not heard back from Century Link on when they plan to do that,” Burnett said.
