Sumner Avenue Bridge to close soon

Get ready. The Sumner Avenue Bridge is likely to be closed in the coming days and will remain closed until late October or early November this fall. Humboldt City Administrator Aaron Burnett reported late last week that the bridge will be closed for the anticipated demolition starting either late this week or early next week. “We still have utilities that are being removed from the bridge and the area below the bridge. The general contractor, Godbersen-Smith Company of Ida Grove, would like to start demolition immediately, or as soon as possible,” Burnett said. “The contractor will try to do whatever work they can while utilities may be blocking demolition activities,” the city administrator said. Burnett reports that the 4-way stop sign planned at 3rd Ave. N. and Hwy. 169 (13th Street) has been approved by the Iowa Department of Transportation.

COOK OF THE WEEK - CHINA PAINTERS

Traditions run long and strong in Humboldt! No tradition is quite as anticipated as the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Children rush madly to find those special eggs, which the Kiwanis Easter Bunnies have left for them. A similar tradition involving Easter eggs will occur in the Morehouse Fellowship Hall of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt on Saturday, April 12. From 9 until 11:30 a.m., individuals can make their own mad dashes to find cherished china eggs, which the Humboldt China Painters have lovingly created. When I arrived to interview the ladies and take pictures, I was in total awe of the beautiful and intricate work they were all doing. Each lady was adding special last minute touches to their works and with such steady hands. The Humboldt China Painters have been in existence for over 39 years. Its impetus began when Margaret Bergman Haugland returned from Fort Collins, CO, in 1975. Margaret had been giving a program concerning her china painting at Dr.
