One for the record books

If Linda Fort seems a little lost this week, who could blame her. After 46 years in the Humboldt County Recorder’s Office, Linda’s work there officially came to an end last Wednesday, Dec. 31. She’ll come back to help complete the semi-annual and second quarter reports, but her days of serving the county as the official recorder and registrar of county documents has come to a close. Many people are not well aware of what the county recorder’s office does. The primary duties include the recording and maintaining of documents affecting titles to real estate within Humboldt County. The office also records vital records and issues certified copies. The office is also in charge of issuing marriage licenses and registering and providing titles for recreational vehicles and craft like boats, snowmobiles, off-road vehicles and all-terrain vehicles. There are also the sales of hunting and fishing licenses, fur harvester licenses and duck and trout stamps.

World nationals finish fuels Cole Edge for 2015

Cole Edge is poised to take his steer wrestling to a new level. Edge, a Humboldt native who now resides in Oklahoma (Durant), competed in his first professional world national finals last month (Dec. 4-13) in Las Vegas and ended up with a fifth-place average. The experience has only motivated Edge even more as he enters the 2015 circuit. “I would have liked to have finished higher in the world standings. A top five is what I was shooting for. A couple little things go a little different and I could have been there. I’m happy for what I got but I’m motivated to do better in 2015,” Edge said.
