Humboldt County was one of five counties recognized Friday, March 6, by Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad as being the latest to becoming certified as a Home Base Iowa Community. The governor also recognized the counties of Clay, Carroll, Hancock and Webster, along with educational institutions Iowa Central Community College, Mercy College of Health Sciences and Eastern Iowa Community College as being Home Base Iowa Certified Higher Academic Military Partners (CHAMPs). To become a certified Home Base Iowa Community, Humboldt County has to signify that 10 percent of its businesses with the potential to hire new employees sign on as a Home Base Iowa Business, that local government supports the effort, that signage will be established that identifies the community as a Home Base Iowa Community, and that the local community creates local incentives that offer additional benefits for veterans that compliment the Home Base Iowa Act.
