Hospital Auxiliary celebrates 50 years

Fundraising and volunteering go hand-in-hand for members of the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, which is evident with plans being made for the Bake Sale and Silent Auction on Saturday, April 18, at the Humboldt Hospital Cafeteria from 9-11 a.m. Members will bring baked goods and donated gift items for sale and departments from the hospital staff will offer baskets made up with various products, for a silent auction. Coffee and rolls and/or coffee cakes will also be served to all those attending. This year, 2015, marks the 50th anniversary of the Hospital Auxiliary, and the 45th year for the hospital. The auxiliary held it’s organi-zational meeting on Oct. 4, 1965, after hearing members of the State Auxiliary Board outline procedures at a large crowd at the Humboldt High School, earlier that fall. There were 286 charter members, with only two living members (Arlene Jacobson and Karen May) maintaining their memberships throughout the 50 years of the organization.

COOK OF THE WEEK - GIRL SCOUTS

The selling of Girl Scout cookies is almost over but I finally got together with some of the Girl Scouts, their mothers and Kathy Eck to visit about their troops and their cookie sales. In visiting with all of them I discovered that in this service unit area of Springvale we have 12 troops which include girls from the towns of Bode, Dakota City, Gilmore City, Humboldt, Livermore, Rolfe and Rutland. Hopefully I haven’t left a town out where one of the girls lives. Some of the “cookie moms” are also troop leaders but not all. I asked what the cookie moms do. I found out they have a lot of hard work to do during cookie sales time. They send in weekly orders and weekly deposits. They are in charge of all the ordering and all of the paperwork, which is now all done online. Up to a few years ago, this was all done on paper. Kathy Eck said she has a very good group of troop leaders and cookie moms, which makes everything so much easier for her.
