Traditional Memorial Day services and remembrances will take place next Monday, May 25, to honor the deceased, especially those who died in service to our country. Here is information on some of the area services: Humboldt/Dakota City There will be flag raising ceremonies at the local cemeteries at sunrise. The Humboldt County Courthouse will also have its avenue of flags. A short parade will be held going west down Sumner Avenue. Entrants will line up at the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center at 9 a.m., with the parade beginning at 9:15 a.m. There will be a salute to the dead at the Sumner Avenue Bridge at 9:25 a.m., with Memorial Day services beginning at Bicknell park at 9:30 a.m. The Honor Guard will provide observances at local cemeteries and the courthouse according to the following schedule: 10:20 a.m., Union Cemetery 10: 40 a.m., Corinth Cemetery 11 a.m., Indian Mound Cemetery 11:15 a.m., St.

The Humboldt High boys' golf team finished second in the Spencer sectional tournament on Monday, May 18. Spencer won the team title with 328 strokes while Humboldt shot 333. MOC-FV was third.Humboldt will advance into Class 3A district competition on Friday, May 22, at Denison, to determine entries for the state tournament, to be held May 29-30 north of Livermore at Spring Valley Golf Course.See full story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper.
