Wildcat boys' golf team wins Storm Lake Invitational

Humboldt's varsity boys' golf team won the Storm Lake Invitational last Saturday, May 2. Humboldt totaled 324 strokes to surpass runner-up Carroll which shot 335. Christian Birdsell fired 38-39--77 to pace Humboldt and earn runner-up medalist honors. Austen Gargano added 40-40--80.Christian Birdsell shot a school record 32 (on a par 37 course) in leading Humboldt past Hampton-Dumont and Fort Dodge St. Edmond in a North Central Conference golf triangular on May 1 in Hampton. Jaxon Heinz added 34.Humboldt will golf in a tournament at Ames on Saturday, May 9, then travel to Algona on May 11 for the conference meet which starts at 10 a.m.See full story and photos in the Humboldt Independent. HHS girls' golf team wins with 182 score

The Humboldt varsity girls' golf team picked up another victory Friday night when they defeated Hampton-Dumont (225) and Fort Dodge St. Edmond (236) in Humboldt on May 1. The Wildcats titled 182 as they were led by Savannah Schnetzer who shot a 36. See story in the Humboldt Independent.

Fourth graders learn about the environment

Humboldt County fourth grade students celebrated Earth Day at the annual Humboldt County Outdoor Classroom recently. Held at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, the event is put on by Humboldt County Conservation, Humboldt Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, City of Humboldt Parks Department and Humboldt Hy-Vee. About 150 fourth grade students from Taft Elementary. St. Mary School, Twin Rivers Elementary and Gilmore City-Bradgate Elementary arrived at the fairgrounds Events Center about 9:30 a.m. The group had a chance to learn about mammals, reptiles and raptors, honey bees and the importance of trees in our environment. Pocahontas County Conservation provided its Star Lab for students to view. The students also built their own birdhouse. Humboldt boys' soccer team in 3-2 victory

The Humboldt boys' soccer team picked up their first win of the season Thursday night by edging CAL of Latimer, 3-2. Isaiah Mooney scored two goals and Logan Vitzthum added one for Humboldt, now 1-7 on the season.Humboldt's game at Carroll today (May 1) has been moved to May 22. Wildcat track teams in Storm Lake Relays

The Humboldt High girls' track team placed second and the boys were fourth in the Storm Lake Relays on April 30. The girls won four events as Beth Duffield won the 200 and 400 meters while Maddie Kampen won the 800-meters. Humboldt also won the 4x800 relay.Humboldt's boys got a first from Tony Nielsen in the 100-meters and the Wildcats' 4x800 and 1,600-meter medley relays also claimed first-place.Next action for Humboldt is May 5 when the boys visit Algona and the girls run at Mason City.See full story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Humboldt girls edge win 2 NCC golf outings

The Humboldt High School varsity girls' golf team shot 185 to defeat Webster City (229) and Iowa Falls-Alden (229) in a meet in Webster City on April 30. Brooke Anderson's 40 paced the Wildcats. Savannah Schnetzer shot 44.Humboldt edged Algona via the tie-breaker in a North Central Conference golf dual at Algona on April 28.
