At Monday’s weekly Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting, the meeting room was filled with citizens concerned about the reclassification of Drainage District No. 2 main and lateral I project in Weaver Township. The large scale drainage improvement project not only included farmland around Gilmore City, it included portions of the town itself. And while most of the earlier meetings had centered around issues with the placement, depth and sealing of the tile itself, Monday’s discussion centered around assessments, particularly those being levied against Gilmore City residents. While assessed farm ground in the drainage district routinely had assessments in the four figures, so did some properties in town. The Gilmore City-Bradgate Community School District has drainage assessments of more than $17,700 alone on its property in the city. City streets in Gilmore City are assessed at more than $65,000.
