Humboldt boys fall at Hampton-Dumont, 67-51

Humboldt's varsity boys' basketball team traveled to Hampton Friday night (Dec. 18) and were upended by the Bulldogs, 67-51. Thomas Orness scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats. He was the only Wildcat in double figures scoring on the night. The loss dropped Humboldt's record to 2-4 on the season, 1-3 in North Central Conference play. Wolverines fall at home to Alta-Aurelia

West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate hosted Alta-Aurelia Friday night (Dec. 18) in West Bend and dropped a girl-boy basketball doubleheader to the Warriors. The Wolverine girls fell in the opener, 55-32, while the boys were upended 69-43. Wildcats go 1-2 in home wrestlng quad

Humboldt's varsity wrestling team went 1-2 in a home quad with Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Pocahontas Area on Thursday night (Dec. 17). Humboldt lost their North Central Conference duals with Webster City (45-27) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (50-15), and won their non-conference dual with Pocahontas Area (40-33). The Wildcats improved to 13-2 overall on the season, 2-2 in conference action.In the other scores on the night, CGD defeated Webster City (42-27) and PAC (45-18) while WC stopped PAC 38-28.Humboldt will wrap up its pre-Christmas slate when they compete in the Spencer tournament on Saturday, Dec. 19.See full story, photos and results in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Rotary donation provides fire bunker gear

Proceeds from the Humboldt Rotary Club’s annual Fly-In Breakfast were used to help the Humboldt Fire Department purchase new bunker gear. A total of $10,000 was donated by the Humboldt Rotary Club with $6,735 from proceeds from the Fly-In Breakfast and $3,265 in matching funds from a Rotary Foundation District grant. Kim Jensen, Lieutenant and 17-year veteran of the Humboldt Fire Department, said with the donation from Rotary coupled with budgeted funds from the city, the department was able to purchase 10 sets of bunker gear. Each set of bunker gear costs about $2,300 and includes a helmet, jacket, pants and boots. Bunker gear is Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is designed to protect firefighters. COOK OF THE WEEK - BANK IOWA EMPLOYEES

We are again visiting with Bank Iowa employees. In fact, we are meeting four of the ladies who work for Bank Iowa this week. Kathy Peart is a Loan Processor at Bank Iowa. Kathy has worked at Bank Iowa for three years. “People” is what she likes best about working at Bank Iowa. When asked how she sees the future of Bank Iowa and the Humboldt community, she replied, “Very involved with community. Bank Iowa will continue to be a pillar in the community they support.” Kathy grew up in the Spencer area, attending Clay Central Everly and PIMA Medical Institute. Her parents are Michael (deceased) and Ruth Coleman of Spencer. Kathy moved to the Humboldt area 10 years ago. Kathy is married to William Peart. William is the son of William and Paula Peart of Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt and ILCC. William’s occupation is a carpenter. Kathy and William have three children. Kathy loves animals. William’s hobby is fishing. Chris Nostrom is a Loan Assistant at Bank Iowa.

Wildcat boys fall short against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 60-59

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows held off a late charge by Humboldt to edge the Wildcats, 60-59 in a boys' North Central Conference game in the Humboldt gym Tuesday night (Dec. 15). Mason Wickett scored 14 points and Thomas Orness had 10 for Humboldt, which slipped to 2-3 on the season, 1-2 in conference play.The Wildcats will resume play on Friday, Dec. 18, when they visit Hampton-Dumont for another NCC matchup. Wildcat girls turn back Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 63-50

Avery Terwilliger scored 23 points, Autumn Hauser had 12 and Talyn Larsen 10 to lead the Humboldt girls’ basketball team past Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 63-50 Tuesday night (Dec. 15) in the Wildcat gym. The victory improved Humboldt's season record to 4-2 overall, 3-0 in the North Central Conference.Humboldt returns to action on Friday, Dec. 18, when they visit Hampton-Dumont in another conference game.
