COOK OF THE WEEK - BRITTANY DETRICK

Brittany Detrick is another one of the many Bank Iowa employees. Brittany has worked as a bank teller for 2-1/2 years. She enjoys meeting the customers and the fast pace of the drive up! Brittany has been married to Paul Detrick for 9 years. They were married October 2006. Brittany’s parents are Kent and Sue Ellsworth of Humboldt. Paul’s parents are Tom and Julie Detrick of Humboldt and Jerry and Geri Schall of Dakota City. Paul is an electrician. Brittany grew up in the Mason City area. She moved to the Humboldt area in 1993. Brittany and Paul are both graduates of the Humboldt High School. Brittany also graduated from La’ James International College. She previously worked as a hairstylist in Fort Dodge for 9-1/2 years. Brittany and Paul have two children. Ava, age 7, attends second grade at St. Mary’s School. Emmett is 3 years old. Brittany’s hobbies include reading and anything outdoors in the summer. Paul’s hobbies are hunting and fishing.

Ross moves to fullback as he looks back on red-shirt year at Iowa

It looks like Brady Ross is a great fit at the University of Iowa, and that’s no surprise. Ross, a 2015 Humboldt High School graduate, just wrapped up his first year on the Hawkeye football team and the future is very bright. A preferred walk-on, Ross joined the squad for summer conditioning shortly after graduating from high school. Starting out as a 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker, Ross blossomed in his red-shirt year and has been asked to make the switch to fullback.See full story in the Jan. 7 issue of the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Peters embraces change, adversity on ISU football team

Levi Peters has come a long ways since he joined the Iowa State University football team back in 2012. Peters will tell you the change and adversity he has faced in his collegiate career will only better prepare him for the rest of his life. The Gilmore City native who starred at Twin River Valley and Fort Dodge High, earned a starting middle linebacker spot on the Cyclone defense in 2015. The likeable and engaging Peters was also voted team captain of the Cyclones. Despite battling rib injuries, Peters fought his way through the season and finished with 47 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery. Humboldt boys top Garrigan, 75-64

The Humboldt High boys' basketball team resumed their season after the Christmas break when they hosted Algona Bishop Garrigan (non-conference) Monday night (Jan. 4) in the Wildcat gym and came out on top by a 75-64 final tally. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and moved HHS to 3-5 overall. Thomas Orness scored 27 points to pace the Wildcats.Humboldt will visit Algona on Friday, Jan. 8, for North Central Conference action. See story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper.
