Humboldt wins 3A girls' regional golf opener

Humboldt's varsity girls' golf team opened post-season tournament play with an impressive first-place finish in regional tournament competition at Sioux Center on Monday, May 16. The Wildcats shot 361 and MOC-FV was the nearest finisher at 397. The two teams advance to a regional final at Clarion on Monday, May 23. Gilbert (382) and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (393) join Humboldt and MOC-FV in the region final after going 1-2 Monday in Ames.Brooke Anderson shot an 86 to lead Humboldt. Humboldt girls, boys combine for 10 events to state track!

Humboldt's varsity girl/boy track teams combined for 10 events to next week's state meet after Thursday's qualifying meet held in Gilbert. The Wildcat girls qualified in the 4x800 relay, 4x400 relay, the 800-meters (Maddie Kampen) and the 400 meters (Beth Duffield). The boys qualified Jake Stockdale in the discus, the 4x400 relay, the 4x800 relay, Trevor Satern in the 400 meter hurdles, the shuttle hurdle relay and Ryan Courtney in the 3,200-meters.See full story in the Humboldt Independent Newspaper. Humboldt boys 6th in NCC, sectional golf tournaments

Humboldt's varsity boys' golf team placed sixth in the North Central Conference tournament held Tuesday, May 10, at Humboldt Country Club. Hudson Gargano shot a 41 to pace the Wildcats, who totaled 173 in the nine-hole event, which was rescheduled from the previous day due to thunderstorms.Hudson Gargano shot a 41 to pace the Wildcats. Isaac Thurm shot a 43, Jack Arndt 44 and Kelly Kayser 45 to lead the Wildcats. Webster City won the team title with 148 strokes. Clear Lake was second at 152 and Fort Dodge St. Edmond third at 155.Humboldt ended its season by placing sixth in the Class 3A sectional at Alleman on May 12. Westhoff earns principal award from Bandmasters

Lori Westhoff, Humboldt High School Principal, has been awarded the Iowa Bandmasters High School Principal Award. Westhoff, a northeast Iowa native from Guttenberg, is in her 12th year at Humboldt. “It is a privilege and an honor to have been nominated for the Iowa Bandmasters High School Principal Award,” Westhoff said. “I am very lucky to have the opportunity to work with such great teachers and students.” “It means a lot to me that the students and staff would submit my name and application materials for this award,” Westhoff said. Building Trades open house at Eagle Ridge

The Humboldt High School Building Trades class will host an Open House at the new home they built this school year at 1000 Eagle Ridge Avenue. The Open House will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to noon. The public is invited and encouraged to come see the work of the dozen students involved in the program this year. The home is also for sale. It’s a three bedroom, two and one-half bath home with 1,984 square feet of finished space, plus an insulated and finished three-car garage. The full basement (with nine foot ceilings) is framed up for two more spacious bedrooms, plus a large bathroom, family room, storage room and mechanical room.
