The Humboldt High baseball team advanced into a Class 3A substate final after holding off Webster City, 6-2 Monday night (July 18) in Algona in a district championship game. The Wildcats improved to 24-7 overall with the win. They'll play Gilbert for the right to advance to the state tournament. Gilbert defeated Boone, 6-3 Monday night in Boone.
Brady Shelgren and Chris Witzke combined to pitch a 1-hitter for Humboldt, which scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
The Humboldt/Gilbert substate final will be played at 8 p.m. at Memorial Park in Boone.
