A dream five years in the making is coming to fruition this week, thanks to some hard work by dedicated volunteers, but most of all thanks to the contributions of a caring community to honor its veterans.
On Saturday, members of the public in the town of Bode and the surrounding communities are invited to a public dedication of the Bode Veterans Memorial Park at the corner of 7th Street and Humboldt Avenue. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., with a lunch and social time to follow at the Bode Community Center.
A small group of volunteers decided that the northern Humboldt County community was a good location for a memorial to honor its veterans.

The Seiler Appliance store will be rebuilt after a devastating fire earlier this year. In the meantime, Seiler Appliance is open and operating out of the building just to the south (enter on the west or east side).
Seiler Appliance owner Russ Seiler announced this week he will be rebuilding his fire damaged store in the same location.
A fire on May 17 caused extensive damage to the building and its contents.
While the store will soon be rebuilt, Seiler allowed the Humboldt Fire Department to do some training on the roof on Tuesday night.
The roof will be removed and replaced as part of the reconstruction project. Part of the west wall will need to be rebuilt. The fire damaged the mortar in part of the west wall that needs to be rebuilt. The interior of the 60’ by 100’ building will be gutted and will be all new inside, including new concrete floors.
