Boil order advisory lifted for LuVerne

A boil advisory for the city of Lu Verne in Kossuth County has been lifted after a different method of performing maintenance to the system has been chosen.
The boil advisory was originally issued Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 2, in anticipation of performing maintenance on the water tower. After finding out that the tower maintenance is going to take longer than expected, the city will instead bypass the tower using pumps meaning water pressure will be maintained and a boil advisory will not have to be implemented. The water in the tower will be tested and brought back online only after water samples indicate it is safe.

COOK OF THE WEEK - REUNIONS AND POTLUCKS

Family reunions, potlucks, and summer all go together in that they all call for salads and casseroles. I was at a family reunion and thought I’d write about the delicious salads and baked beans we were all enjoying. It seems like almost everyone had tried a new recipe out and they were all so good. I gathered the recipes into my hot little hands and came home to put them on the computer and this is what I came up with.

Frito and Corn Salad
2 (15 oz.) cans whole kernel
corn, drained
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup green pepper, chopped (or substitute some pimento)
1/2 cup red onion, chopped
10-1/2 ounce bag coarsely
crushed Fritos chili cheese
corn chips
Mix first 5 ingredients and chill. Stir in corn chips just before serving.

Wildcats place 5 on all-NCC baseball team

Humboldt, which dominated the North Central Conference in baseball this past season with a perfect 14-0 record, placed five players on the coaches' post-season all-conference team. Humboldt head coach Jason Thurm made the announcement at the team banquet on July 19.

Senior pitcher Chris Witzke and senior shortstop Brady Shelgren were both unanimous first-team picks for the Wildcats. Junior third baseman Devon Clark was also named first-team infield. sophomore infielder/outfielder Reese DeWinter was chosen third-team, along with freshman second baseman Joey Busse.
