Rusher resigns from Humboldt Council

Humboldt at-large City Council member Darrell Rusher resigned on Monday, effective immediately. The Humboldt City Council plans to fill the position by appointment, unless a petition for a special election is filed. The Council plans to fill the set at its Monday, Dec. 5 Council meeting. Interested candidates are asked to bring a letter stating such to Humboldt City Hall by 4 p.m. that day.

Humboldt at-large Council member Darrell Rusher is putting a close to his public service as a member of the Humboldt City Council.
Rusher submitted his resignation from the Humboldt City Council on Monday after serving the better part of two decades in office.
“I’ve been having some health issues and I feel that I’ve served long enough. It’s time for someone else to step in and take over,” Rusher said.
The Humboldt City Council has elected to fill the vacancy by appointment, but the electors within the city have a right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by special election.

About 40 people gathered in Bicknell Park Friday, Nov. 11, to honor veterans with the dedication of the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge in Humboldt.
“This is the first veterans’ memorial erected in the city in the past 50 years, long overdue to recognize those who served,” Humboldt Mayor Dan Scholl said.
Scholl thanked Joe Hadar and Darrell Rusher for organizing the effort to construct the memorial and raise funds. He thanked the many service groups, businesses and individuals who donated for the memorial plaques. He also thanked the Humboldt American Legion, Dakota City VFW, Humboldt County Community Foundation and Lincoln Mason for their support and involvement in the project, and the Humboldt City Council, for agreeing to rename the bridge the Veterans’ Memorial Bridge.
“It will serve as a centerpiece to the entrance of our community for many years to come,” Scholl said.
