Chad Beaman’s Humboldt High School wrestling team may not get a lot of pre-season attention from some folks across the state, but that’s okay with the veteran coach who begins his 14th season guiding the Wildcats.

Wildcat girls expect to challenge in NCC

After leading the North Central Conference for much of last season, only to fall short at the end, veteran Humboldt girls’ basketball coach Rodd Mooney would love nothing better than to see his team finish strong come February.
Thanks to the return of four letterwinners and a strong senior class, the Wildcats have the tools to again contend for a league championship this season.

Humboldt wrestlers whip ELC in opener, 55-24

The Humboldt wrestling team opened their season in winning fashion Thursday night (Dec.1 ) by handling the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets, 55-24 in a non-conference match in Estherville.

The Wildcats got wins from Elijah Torres (major decision, 132), Joey Busse (11-second fall, 138), Jaden Kampen (forfeit, 145), Jaxon Kampen (pin, 152), Gus Arnold (10-7 dec. at 160), Brandon Johnson (pin, 195), Cole Anderson (pin, 220), Tanner Myer (pin, 106), Cresten Craven (forfeit, 120) and Corey Kasperbauer (pin, 126).

Humboldt will host the Joe Fitch Invitational on Friday, Dec. 2. Action starts at 4:30 p.m. in the Wildcat gym. Other schools competing include Emmetsburg, Pocahontas Area, Aplington-Parkersburg, Atlantic, Forest City and Carroll Kuemper.

New women's clothing store opening

A new women’s clothing store appealing to all ages is opening on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the southeast corner of 5th Avenue North and Highway 169 in Humboldt.
The store is Carbon Boutique and is located in the former location of Short Physical Therapy.
“There just really isn’t anything nearby for women’s clothing. We hope to accommodate from teenagers on up,” owner Tonya Heier said. “And price-wise, there are shirts starting at $20. We have leggings in Humboldt colors, game day jerseys, clothes for anybody.”
The store features shirts, sweaters, jeans, booties, shoes, CC Beanie hats, scarves, gloves and keychains, jewelry and more. There will be a room with t-shirts created by Jess Poutre. There’s a room for accessories.

Christmas Box, Angel Tree gifts wanted

The Humboldt County Ministerial Association’s annual Christmas Food Box Distribution will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.
Boxes must be brought to the fairgrounds between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12.
Boxes can be picked up by the assigned people at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, Dec. 13, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Humboldt-Dakota City pick up time is 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All others are from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
More than 225 families in Humboldt County enjoy a better Christmas because of this event, which is coordinated by the Humboldt County Ministerial Association. The box is to provide a family in need with a complete holiday meal.
Humboldt County Ministerial Association has placed an Angel Tree at the Tree Walk at Faith United Methodist Church for children 18 and under. It is the only location for an Angel Tree this holiday season.
