The community has an animal control problem and the Humboldt City Council has taken the first steps to try do something about it.
Beginning March 1, Humboldt City Ordinance Chapter 55 will have a licensing requirement for dogs and cats. The ordinance states that a person possessing a dog or cat within the city limits must register the animal with the Humboldt City Clerk. The license will be issued upon receipt of completed application and veterinary records showing a current rabies vaccination. The fee for licensing is $5 for animals that are unsexed and $10 for male or female animals.
According to Humboldt Police Administrator Dean Kruger, Humboldt Police dealt with 133 animal related calls last year. The total included 77 animal complaint calls, an increase of 10 over 2015 numbers and 13 more than 2014.
