If you hear some hot licks coming from 619 Sumner Ave., don’t be alarmed, it’s just Humboldt’s newest business, Trammell Music Company, a music store and much more.
Owner Nick Trammell is starting the new venture as a response to a lifelong dream, making a living by working in music.
Nick said he started playing guitar when he was 12-13 years old.
“During the past 17 years or so I’ve been goofing with guitars as a hobby, but I’ve never played professionally myself,” Nick said.
He has been a guitar technician with friend Alex Newman’s band, Trust. Alex will be offering guitar lessons by appointment at Trammell Music Company.
“I want to focus on sales and lessons,” Trammell said.
He has visited with the music instructors in the Humboldt School system and wants to bring in more high school and middle school band accessories.

City to save on storm sewer project

The walls are starting to take shape at the new AmericInn Hotel and Suite at the corner of 3rd Avenue North and Highway 169 in Humboldt. By Kent Thompson
Ten contractors from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota bid on Humboldt’s Lewis Street storm sewer replacement project.
The bids ranged from just over $200,000 to $378,000. The low bid of $204,526, submitted by Denver Underground of Denver, IA, was 22.9 percent below the engineer’s estimate of $265,402. The city of Humboldt bonded up to $250,000 for the project.
“We don’t usually see 10 bidders on a project, but it tells us that contractors are hungry for work and we are seeing excellent prices as a result,” David Doxtad, professional engineer with ISG, the city’s civil engineering firm, said.
After reviewing the bids for the Lewis Street project, the Humboldt City Council unanimously approved a resolution approving the bid from Denver Underground.
