Jacobson given six-month contract as engineer

Longtime Humboldt County Engineer Paul Jacobson was given a temporary six-month contract Monday by the five-member Humboldt County Board of Supervisors, after Board members expressed concerns about Jacobson's ability to work with the public. By Kent Thompson
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors gave longtime Humboldt County Engineer Paul Jacobson an ultimatum on Monday, improve skills in dealing with the public or else face not being reappointed.
Board members issued strong opinions about Jacobson’s performance on Monday during a review of his yearly contract.
Jacobson elected to have the review in open session, although only one member of the public sat in to listen on the 15-minute review.
Some members of the Board felt Jacobson should be given time to make improvements. Others felt he should not be retained and his contract not renewed.

The 53rd annual Humboldt/Dakota City Noon Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 15, beginning at 10 a.m., on the cement playground area north of Taft Elementary School.
Young children with their grocery bags, Easter baskets or buckets; accompanied by parents or guardians, should arrive prior to 10 a.m.
There will be three categories for youth: pre-kindergarten (can be accompanied by an adult), kindergarten/first grade, and second/third grade.
Club members will be tossing out about 200 pounds of candy that morning, thanks to the generous sponsorship of many community merchants. In addition to the candy, many of the merchants will be providing prizes, about 850 in all, that participants can redeem at the local businesses.
The club also purchased grand prizes of Easter baskets filled with prizes and games for one lucky winner in each of the age categories.
