By KENT THOMPSON
The Humboldt Recreation Center with the Ken and Marilyn Nielsen Family Fieldhouse was a hub of activity early Monday evening.
There was third and fourth grade hoopsters playing recreation youth basketball on two courts with about 50 adoring fans looking on, another 15-20 people of all ages shooting baskets, a dozen or more walkers on the running track, games of pickle ball and racquetball going on, people using stationary bikes, weight machines, lifting free weights, running on treadmills and participating in exercise classes.
The newly opened facility was getting quite a workout.
All that is great news on a number of fronts. At Monday’s Humboldt City Council meeting, Humboldt City Administrator Travis Goedken reported that more than 1,100 memberships to the center have been sold.
“That’s half the town, and over double our projections on our initial cash flow projection sheet,” Goedken said.
