Vermeer to resign from Humboldt City Council

First Ward Councilman Jim Vermeer announced on Monday that he will be resigning from the council at the end of next month. Vermeer represents the city's southwest portion of town.

By KENT THOMPSON
The Humboldt City Council will be looking for a new member effective next month.
Humboldt First Ward City Council member Jim Vermeer announced his resignation at Monday night’s meeting.
Vermeer has served on the Council the past three-and-one-half years, and previously served on the Council eight years ago.
“I have a lot of commitments this summer both personally and professionally,” Vermeer said. “I don’t think it would be fair to this Council for someone to be here half-time. Plus, we are about six months away from the election and this might give someone an opportunity to try it out for six months and see if they like it,” Vermeer said.
He said the experience has been a good one.
“You learn a lot. I would encourage people to consider running and anyone can call me and ask questions. Ninety-nine percent of the time it’s a positive experience."
