The Humboldt City Council appears ready to move forward with a new animal shelter agreement with the community non-profit, Humboldt Community Animal Shelter (HCAS) group.
“The purpose of the shelter would be so we don’t have to house any animals at our city pound (located at the Humboldt Wastewater Treatment Plant site on Gotch Park Road south of Humboldt),” Humboldt City Administrator Travis Goedken said.
“Our animal control budget in the past has been $3,000 to $4,000. I think it would be possible to get that up to the $7,500 level if we use some of our cable TV franchise funds,” Goedken said.
City Clerk Gloria Christensen reported just under $50,000 is in the cable TV franchise account. The city uses the funds for non-profit organization donations. The Council recently approved a $5,000 donation to the Humota Movie Group from the account.
