Wildcats fall at Spencer

The Humboldt High football team saw their season record slip to 0-4 overall Friday night (Sept. 20) in Spencer as the Tigers took advantage of Humboldt turnovers and short field position to roll past the Wildcats, 35-6 in non-district play.

Humboldt will begin Class 3A District 2 action on Friday, Sept. 27, at Boone.

Wildcat girls win team title at Carroll

The No. 12 ranked Humboldt volleyball team moved its season record to 19-2 overall after going 5-0 to win the Carroll tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21. Humboldt defeated Newell-Fonda, Storm Lake, Ar-We-Va and South Central Calhoun twice to win their second tournament of the season.

Humboldt shuts out Iowa Falls-Alden
Humboldt improved its season record to 14-2 overall on Sept. 19, 3-0 in the North Central Conference when they shutout Iowa Falls-Alden in 3 sets inside the Iowa Falls gym. Humboldt downed the Cadets by scores of 26-24, 25-16 and 25-22.

Humboldt will travel to Boone on Tuesday, Sept. 24, to face the Toreadors and Grand View Christian in non-conference action. The Wildcats return home on Sept. 26 to host Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

Humboldt boys 1st, Wildcat girls 2nd in Clear Lake cross country meet

The Humboldt High cross country team put together another strong performance in the Clear Lake Invitational on Thursday night (Sept. 19).

The Wildcat boys claimed the team title while the girls were second. Humboldt's boys totaled 60 points to edge West Fort (66). Mason City Newman edged the Humboldt girls (59-67) for the team title in their division.

Quinton Orr was first in 16:37 to lead the Wildcat boys. Eric Wittrock was sixth in 18:03 and Devon Coon 10th in 18:23. Nolan Jergens ran 17th, Carter Theesfeld 26th, Nate Grainger 59th and Carter Hatcher 65th.

Bryce Gidel was first in 20:02 to pace the Humboldt girls. Kirstyn Beaman was fourth in 22:15 and Shelby Hayden 18th in 23:46. Brett Harklau was 21st, Allison Hoag 26th, Kali Beaman 32nd and Grace Smith 33rd.

Humboldt will host their own invitational on Monday, Sept. 23 at lower Sheldon Park.

HHS girls 3rd, boys 4th in Ballard Invitational

Humboldt's girls placed third while the Wildcat boys placed fourth among a tough field of competitive schools in the Ballard Huxley Invitational cross country meet on Monday, Sept. 16 at Huxley.

The Humboldt girls, led by runner-up Bryce Gidel (20:11), finished with 119 points to end up behind first-place North Polk (77) and Atlantic (81) in the 11-school Class B field. Kirstyn Beaman was 17th and Shelby Hayden 28th to pace the Humboldt girls.

Humboldt's boys totaled 86 points to finish fourth behind Nodaway Valley (64), North Polk (71) and Madrid (73) in the 12-school field of teams. Quinton Orr was the individual winner in 16:47. Teammate Devon Coon ran ninth in 18:07 while Eric Wittrock ran 13th in 18:36.

Humboldt will run in the Clear Lake Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 19.

Next action will be the Humboldt Invitational on Monday, Sept. 23.
