Cole Nelson (106) and Cresten Craven (120) earned runner-up finishes to lead the Humboldt wrestlers to a 4th place finish in the Don Miller Invitational at Fort Dodge on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Colten Goodell (220) and Logan Nilles (182) placed 3rd while Jase Goodell (113) and Colby Clarken (126) placed 4th. Ty Gargano (132), Fletcher Satern (152) and Levi Naeve (160) were 5th.

Wildcats upended by Cowboys

Humboldt’s varsity basketball teams both suffered a pair of NCC losses at home on Friday, Dec. 20, to visiting Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.

The Wildcat girls fell 53-42 while Humboldt’s boys also came up short, 66-61. Kendal Clark scored 13 points and Mady Lange added 12 to pace the Wildcat scoring. Sam Fischer scored 19 points and grabbed 19 rebounds and Caden Matson added 14 to lead the Wildcat boys.

The Wildcat girls are 3-4 overall, 1-3 in the NCC. The Humboldt boys are 4-2 and 1-2.
Both teams are off until Jan. 3 when they visit Fort Dodge St. Edmond.

Wildcat wrestlers to 3-1 in NCC duals

Humboldt's varsity wrestling team suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night (Dec. 19) in a quadrangular at Hampton. Humboldt, 13-1 overall, 3-1 in the North Central Conference, lost 42-31 to league leader Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. Humboldt defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL 36-31 and whipped Pocahontas Area 61-12. CGD defeated HDC 39-33 and HDC beat Pocahontas 48-27.

Humboldt will compete in the Don Miller Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 21 in Fort Dodge starting at 10 a.m. It will be Humboldt's final action before the Christmas break.

Wildcats sweep Eagle Grove

Humboldt's varsity girl-boy basketball teams both picked up non-conference victories Thursday night (Dec. 19) by sweeping Eagle Grove inside the Humboldt gym.

Humboldt's girls, led by Mady Lange's 22 points, posted a 61-35 victory over the Eagles. Kendal Clark was next for Humboldt with 12 points and Jayda Hoefer added eight. Humboldt improved to 3-2 overall with the win.

Gabe Gidel scored 22 points to lead four Wildcats in double figure scoring as Humboldt posted a 77-59 victory. Caden Matson finished with 17 points, Jacob Thurm made 12 and Sam Fischer had 11 for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-1 on the season.

Humboldt returns to action on Friday night at home when they host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in NCC competition.
