Cancellations/postponements/announcements


The Humboldt Recreation Center closed on Tuesday, March 17, as a precautionary measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city of Humboldt appreciates the patience of members of the Rec Center and will let the public know when the facility reopens.

Humboldt, St. Mary's and Twin Rivers Schools are cancelled until April 14. Spring sports/activities are on hold until then.
Wine and Dine
The third annual Wine and Dine trivia night planned for March 20 for Relay for Life has been postponed.
“Due to the concerns of COVID-19 and being in large groups, we are going to postpone the event at this time. I will be working to set another date and we will still have this event. It’s a great event, however, we are concerned about everyone’s health and well-being and we want to follow the suggested guidelines provided by the state and CDC,” Tina Coleman of the American Cancer Society said.
Humboldt County Community Foundation
The Humboldt County Community Foundation check presentation ceremony scheduled for March 19 has been cancelled. Checks will be mailed to recipients.

Lunch available

The Humboldt School District will provide free meals for all children between the ages of 0-18 starting on Tuesday, March 17.
Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch meals can be picked up at the Taft main entryway between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The District will deliver meals to students that do not have access to transportation. Please call Taft at (515) 332-3216, if you need this service. If no one answers, please leave a message at extension 6429.
Twin Rivers
The Twin Rivers School District will provide free meals for all children between the ages of 0-18 starting on Wednesday, March 18, in two locations. Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch meal pick up times will be 8:30- 9:30 a.m. (breakfast) and 12-12:30 p.m. (lunch). The Bode pick up site is at the main entrance of the elementary school. The Livermore pick-up is in front of the old school site next to the Catholic church. A school vehicle will be at the Livermore location for disbursement.

Wildcat boys 3rd in season track opener

Humboldt won four events and placed third in the team scoring of their indoor season-opening track meet held Friday night (March 13) inside the Nielsen Family Recreation Center.

Expecting to get a challenge from Class 3A power Carlisle and conference foe Webster City, the Wildcats got just that as they finished with 107 team points. Carlisle totaled 163.5 and Webster City was next with 111. Garner-Hayfield/Ventura placed fourth with 57.5 while Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (47) and Eagle Grove (41) round out the scoring.

Humboldt's individual champions were Cale Hundertmark in the 200-meters (25.11) and Quinton Orr in the 1,600-meters (4:38.64).

Humboldt also won the 4x800 meter relay (Trevor Jacobson, Eric Wittrock, Carter Theesfeld, Orr) in 8:47.25 and the 4x400 meter relay (Hundertmark, Wittrock, Aiden Christensen, Matt Miller) in 3:43.85.

BREAKING NEWS: Care Centers institute 'no visitors' policy

Local government, businesses, schools and churches are taking precautions regarding the Novel Coronavirus, COVID-19.
Beginning today (Friday, March 13) at 6 a.m., the Humboldt North and South Care Centers are instituting a “no visitors” policy until further notice.
“We have a no coronavirus or signs of the illness in our facility. We are doing this strictly as a precautionary measure to be proactive because the elderly are susceptible,” said Lisa Minor, Infection Preventative and registered nurse with North Care Center.
“We are following the guidelines of the Iowa and Department of Public Health and our local health officials,” Care Center Administrator Leslie Smith said.

HHS girls win indoor track team title

Led by Kendal Clark's record-setting shot put throw of 42-4, the Humboldt High girls' track team opened their season by winning the team title of their indoor home meet on Thursday (March 12).

Humboldt totaled 215 points to take the top spot. Carlisle was second at 123, Pocahontas Area third at 54 and Manson-NW fourth with 49. Webster City (46), South Central Calhoun (43), Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (39) and Garner-Hayfield/Ventura (5) round out the scoring.

In addition to Clark's winning shot put effort, Humboldt got firsts from Paige DeWinter in the 200-meters, Kirstyn Beaman in the 800, Bryce Gidel in the 1,000, the 4x200 relay of Carlie Thompson, Mady Lange, Alexis Hansen and DeWinter; the 4x800 relay of Beaman, Hoefer, Harklau and Peyton and the distance medley relay of Thompson, Lange, Varangkounh and Gidel. Humboldt also won the shuttle hurdle relay, run by Jori Hajek, Lily Groat, Kailee Dettmann and Claire Varangkounh. Dettmann also won the high jump.
