West River Meats to re-open in Rutland

Don Thul stands in front of where West River Meats will soon be opening in Rutland. Last Thursday, Nov. 19, cement was being poured for the floor of a 60’ by 40’ addition to an existing 24’ by 40’ building.

After a five-year absence a new meat locker is under construction in Rutland.
A fire destroyed Thul’s West River Meats on Feb. 22, 2015. It didn’t work out for owners Don and Michelle Thul to rebuild at that time. Instead, they built a 24’ by 40’ building a block east for his catering business, Thul’s West River Catering.
At Rutland, a 60’ by 40’ addition is now being built on to the catering building, and the entire site will become West River Meats. The cement floor was poured on Nov. 19, and Thul is hoping to open around Jan. 1. See the rest of the story in this week's Humboldt Independent. HHS returns 9, led by champion Kendal Clark

Humboldt Head Wrestling Coach Chad Beaman got excited as he talked about the upcoming girls’ wrestling season.
The Wildcats begin their second year with the program, bolstered by last year’s seventh place finish in the state tournament and the return of nine letterwinners, led by defending state champion Kendal Clark in the 170-pound class.
“The girls are really excited to get started this year and we’ve added to our numbers. They are doing a nice job in practice. They only get about an hour of practice each day but they are making good use of their time,” Beaman said.
“We already notice a difference in them. The girls who are back are much more confident in what they are doing and they show improvement each day in practice. It is exciting to see,” Beaman said.
