Bank Iowa offers digital egg hunt with prizes

The continued cancelation of some community Easter egg hunts across the state and continued socially distance restrictions has compelled Bank Iowa to host a second annual virtual Easter egg hunt. Starting this Saturday, March 27, Humboldt-area community members will be invited to participate in a digital hunt for Easter egg icons hidden throughout the Bank Iowa website (bankiowa.bank). Over the course of five days, five eggs will be hidden on the site, with a new egg hidden each day.
Every day at noon, the egg will move to a new location on the site. Hunters who want a leg-up on the competition are encouraged to watch for clues on Bank Iowa’s Facebook and Instagram pages (facebook.com/BankIowaBank and Instagram.com/bankiowabanks).

The Humboldt County Community Foundation (HCCF) announced nearly $110,000 in grant awards this past week.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and suggested restrictions for large group social gatherings, the HCCF informed grant recipients individually and dispensed with the traditional award presentation ceremony.
A total of one dozen county non-profit groups will receive a total of $109,500 in community grant funding for the coming year. The total reflects 47 percent of the $233,343.50 in requests received from various county non-profit groups for one-time and ongoing improvement projects. Kara Waldorf

Kara Waldorf, former Ankeny High and Augustana College volleyball standout, is the new head coach of Humboldt’s volleyball program.

The selection of Waldorf, who has lived in Humboldt for eight years, was approved by the Humboldt Board of Education in last week’s meeting.

Waldorf, the former Kara Johnson, graduated from Ankeny High School in 2001. She starred in volleyball and basketball at Ankeny, where she was a second-team all-state selection in the fall of 2000. She also played five years for a club team in Des Moines.

“I’m super excited and honored to get to lead the Humboldt program. I love the sport of volleyball and to be able to help kids in the community through the game,” Waldorf said.

The wait may not be over but Humboldt County Memorial Hospital (HCMH) CEO Michelle Sleiter was excited to share some good news Tuesday morning.
At the HCMH monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees, Sleiter revealed that Humboldt County Public Health will be receiving an additional 1,170 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine next week.
“This is the first of two large shipments we will be receiving with another 1,170 doses coming in 21 days for the second vaccination schedule,” Sleiter said.
A mass clinic is planned for Wednesday, March 31 and Thursday, April 1 for citizens who are eligible (see requirements below.)
“We have had a number of eligible citizens who have been waiting patiently to be vaccinated. This will start to get more of those people who are eligible into the vaccination stream,” Sleiter said.
