Humboldt girls 4th, boys 7th in Clear Lake cross country

The Humboldt girls cross country team placed fourth and the boys were seventh in the Clear Lake cross country meet Thursday night (Sept. 16).

Joslyn Orr was 15th in 23:17 and Jackson Chambers 18th in 18:38 to pace the Wildcats.

Humboldt will host their own invitational at Sheldon Park on Tuesday, Sept. 21. The meet was postponed from Monday due to thunderstorms in the area.

The Wildcats run at Algona on Monday, Sept. 27.

Wildcats win Carroll volleyball tournament

The Humboldt volleyball team went 5-0 on the day to win the Carroll Invitational tournament on Saturday, Sept. 18. The triumph improved the Wildcats' season record to 19-4 overall.

Humboldt defeated Storm Lake (21-12, 21-9), South Central Calhoun (21-18, 21-6), Ar-We-Va (21-12, 21-7), Carroll (21-17, 21-12) and Newell-Fonda (14-21, 21-18, 15-7).

Humboldt girls shutout Bulldogs in 3 sets
Humboldt moved to 14-4 overall, 2-0 in the North Central Conference after shutting out Hampton-Dumont-CAL in three sets Thursday night (Sept. 16) in the Humboldt gym.

The Wildcats won by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-12. The Bulldogs slipped to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the NCC.

Humboldt will travel to Webster City on Tuesday, Sept. 21, for a key conference clash with the Lynx, who are 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the NCC and moved into the 4A rankings this week.

Wildcat girls 8th, boys 9th in Ballard's Mike Carr Invitational

Humboldt's girls placed eighth while the boys were ninth in the Mike Carr Invitational cross country meet hosted by Ballard Huxley on Sept. 13 in Huxley.

The Humboldt girls were paced by Kinzie Peyton who ran 37th in 24:11. Joslyn Orr ran 46th in 25:05 and Reagan Lee was 49th in 25:21. Kali Beaman was 50th in 25:21 and Grace Smith 56th in 25:55.

The Wildcats totaled 238 points. Dallas Center-Grimes won with 46 points. Indianola was second at 55 and Carlisle third with 88.

Jackson Chambers placed 22nd overall to pace the Humboldt boys. Chambers finished in 18:38. Jordan Coon was 55th in 20:02 and Carter Hatcher 58th in 20:30. David Muir ran 68th in 21:25 and Jaxon Martin was 70th in 21:26.

Dallas Center-Grimes also claimed the boys title with 23 points. Pella was runner-up with 89 and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn was third with 92 points.

Humboldt returns to action in the Humboldt Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

LOSST vote passes in both Lu Verne and Rutland

The LOSST (Local Option Sales and Service Tax) is found. On Tuesday, voters in both Lu Verne and Rutland apparently passed a Local Option Sales and Service Tax for their locales. The unofficial totals according to the Humboldt County Auditor, were 3 voters in favor and 0 opposed in the Humboldt County portion of the town of Lu Verne. Ballot language said that the city of Lu Verne should implement a 1 percent sales and service tax beginning Jan. 1, 2022 until June 30, 2031. Revenues from the tax shall be allocated 100 percent for any lawful use as determined by the Lu Verne City Council and 0 percent for property tax relief.

No. 7 Humboldt rallies past ELC, 38-28

Humboldt, ranked 7th in the latest Class 3A state football poll, overcame a 14-0 first quarter deficit by upending the No. 2 (Class 2A) ranked Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets, 38-28 at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt Friday night (Sept. 10).

Humboldt senior quarterback Caden Matson scored three rushing touchdowns and passed to Jacob Heier for two other scores to lead the Wildcats, who improved to 3-0 overall on the season. Trever Beach kicked a 26-yard field goal to aid the Wildcat scoring.

Matson scored on runs of 2, 3 and 11 yards. He finished the night with 109 yards rushing to lead the Wildcats. He teamed up with Heier for scoring pass plays covering 37 and 22 yards, respectively. Heier led the Humboldt receiving charts with five receptions for 134 yards.

ELC slipped to 2-1 on the season.

Humboldt finishes up its non-district schedule at Boone on Friday, Sept. 17. Humboldt hosts Ballard Huxley on Sept. 24 in their annual homecoming game.
