HHS boys top Titans, girls fall

Humboldt's varsity girl/boy basketball teams divided a home doubleheader with South Central Calhoun on Jan. 11 in non-conference action.

The Wildcats girls fell 63-41 to the 10th ranked (Class 2A) Titans. SCC moved to 10-1 while the Wildcat girls slipped to 7-6 overall.

Humboldt's boys, ranked 5th in Class 3A, had five players score in double figures to upend the Titans, who are ranked in the top five in Class 2A. Ben Kuehnast scored 20 points to lead Humboldt. Trevor Jacobson and Jacob Heier each had 13 while Will Orness and Josh Thurm both had 12 apiece for Humboldt, which moved to 10-0 overall on the season.

Humboldt will return to action at home on Thursday, Jan. 13 against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in NCC action. It will be a JV-varsity four-game night of basketball.

Wildcat boys turn back Clear Lake, Iowa Falls-Alden

The No. 5 ranked Humboldt boys' basketball team kept their unbeaten record intact Monday night (Jan. 10) by holding off the Clear Lake Lions, 77-67 in a conference game in the Humboldt gym. The Wildcats, 9-0 overall, 5-0 in the NCC, were led in scoring by Caden Matson with 23 points. Will Orness had 15 and Jacob Heier 13 to lead Humboldt. Carson Toebe scored 29 for Clear Lake.

Humboldt earned another conference win Friday night (Jan. 7) by turning back the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets, 67-55 in a North Central Conference game in Humboldt on Jan. 7.

Will Orness scored 20 points, Caden Matson had 13, Jacob Heier 12 and Ben Kuehnast 11 to lead the Wildcats. IFA was paced by Andrew Bicknese with 17 points. Blake Janssen had 13 and Jaden Damiano added 10.

Humboldt hosts South Central Calhoun on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

The Wildcats host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Humboldt girls fall to Lions, top Cadets

Humboldt's varsity girls' basketball team battled the Clear Lake Lions Monday night in the Humboldt gym but fell short, 55-38 to the league leading Lions. Alexis Hansen scored 11 points to lead Humboldt. Reagan Lee had nine and Joie Smith and Morgan Mann each had seven.

Humboldt is now 7-5 overall, 4-2 in conference play. CL is 7-2 and 6-0.

Humboldt jumped out to a 7-0 lead and employed a stingy defense to topple Iowa Falls-Alden, 58-35 Friday night (Jan. 7) in a North Central Conference game in the Humboldt gym.

Humboldt was led in scoring by Morgan Mann with 15 points. Alexis Hansen made 14. IFA was led by Cidni Phipps with eight points.

The Wildcats host South Central Calhoun on Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Humboldt hosts Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Wildcat wrestlers bury Clear Lake, 65-6, 5th in Atlantic meet

The Humboldt wrestling team had no trouble in their North Central Conference dual at Clear Lake Thursday night (Jan. 6), rolling a 65-6 victory over the Lions.

Humboldt is now 7-3 overall, 3-2 in conference action.

Humboldt placed 5th in the Atlantic tournament on Saturday, Jan. 8. The Wildcats’ top finishes came from Cyler Cirks at 106, Tyce Clarken at 120, Jayden Gargano at 126, Jase Goodell at 138 and Joe Weydert at 152.
