Board accepts resignation of middle school principal

Brenda Geitzenauer

In a brief, special meeting held on July 15, the Humboldt School Board accepted the resignation of middle school principal Brenda Geitzenauer.

The board voted 5-0 to accept the resignation immediately. There was no formal announcement from Geitzenauer or the district.

“Today I will send out a memo to all middle school staff, updating them where we are at and the vision of what we are going to do going forward,” School Superintendent Jim Murray said.

“We have just posted the position and we have received interest from one outside party, but I don’t expect a lot of interest from outside folks that would be looking for middle school employment at this time,” Murray said.

After All-American 1st season at DMACC, Clark isn’t resting on her accolades

KENDAL CLARK

By Phil Monson

Humboldt’s Kendal Clark set a pretty high standard for herself in her first season of collegiate softball.

Clark, a 2021 Humboldt High School graduate, completed her first season at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, where she earned first-team All-American honors in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II level. Clark, a starting outfielder, was also named to National Fastpitch Coaches Association all-Midwest Region First Team.

She helped lead the Bears to a fifth-place finish in the national tournament as DMACC finished the year 52-5 overall. Clark hit .559 for the Bears with a .633 on-base percentage and a 1.211 slugging percentage. She had 90 hits in 161 at-bats including 20 doubles, two triples and 27 home runs. Clark drove in 101 runs and scored 78 runs. Clark’s 101 RBIs led all of NJCAA Division II and she was second nationally in home runs to teammate Emma Dighton of Boone.

Volunteers, tools and equipment needed

Doug Marso (left) and Jacob Place (right) work on cutting down and tearing out some select trees in Taft Park last week to make way for the Wildcat Wonderland Playground, which will be constructed next month. Humboldt Independent photo by Kent Thompson.

The new build of Wildcat Wonderland is only a month away. This past week, Marso Excavating of Dakota City took out some old trees east of the Taft Park Shelter House to make way for the new playground site.
The ground will be grubbed to get the site prepared for the playground installation.
The Humboldt Parks and Recreation Department is still in urgent need of volunteers. An extra day has been added to the schedule, from Monday, Aug. 15-Sunday, Aug. 21.
If you have a desire, prior construction experience, while valuable, is not required.
Does your local business, church group, service organization or club have a few hours to volunteer? This is a community project being done for the kids. There will be three four-hour work shifts on each of the building days, from 8 a.m. to noon, 12-4 p.m. and 4-8 p.m.
Child care will be provided on-site and meals will be provided to workers.
