100+ Women contribute to Make-A-Wish

The Humboldt County 100-plus Women Who Care met recently at the Dakota City VFW Hall and considered several worthwhile community endeavors for their charitable contributions. The Humboldt County 100-Plus Women Who Care met recently and lent their giving spirit to making a special dream come true for critically ill children right here in Humboldt County. During their meeting this month the group donated funds totaling $15,100 to the Humboldt County Make-A-Wish endowment fund.
The Humboldt Community Foundation has opened an endowment fund in partnership with Make-A-Wish Iowa. Anyone in the community can contribute to the fund at the foundation. Once the fund hits $300,000, it will then generate a $15,000 draw down every single year, forever, to fund a wish for a child in Humboldt County. State endowment tax credits are available when donating to this local fund. Read the story and see more photos in this week's Humboldt Independent.

Humboldt School Superintendent Jim Murray provided several updates during Monday’s regular monthly meeting of the Humboldt Board of Education.
Murray said a Dec. 8 timeline is in place to publish seeking bids for the building projects at Taft Elementary and the middle school.
“We’re hoping the publish date for the bids for Taft and the middle school will be on Dec. 8. I want to do a pre-bid meeting on Dec. 13 at the Taft cafeteria at 4 p.m. That meeting will be for both buildings,” Murray said.
“It’s a good opportunity for you to come in and ask the architect questions, look at the designs,” Murray said.
