The annual Cy-Hawk Street Party will take place in downtown Humboldt on Thursday, Sept. 7, with the RVTV traveling crew from WHO-TV 13 to be on hand for what should be another memorable afternoon and evening.
RVTV consists of WHO-TV 13 sports director Keith Murphy, head meteorologist Ed Wilson, sports reporters John Sears and Mark Freund and veteran reporter/anchor Andy Fales.
“When we reached out to Humboldt years ago, they were on board right away. I recall when we first rolled into downtown Humboldt on those first couple of streets, they had streets blocked off and they had all kinds of activities going on,” Sears said. “I remember Keith and I were looking at each other, saying ‘this is going to be good. This is going to be good.’ And as the night went on, it got better and better.”

One hundred and eighty-eight members of the Faith United Methodist Church from the Humboldt, Gilmore City and Livermore centers gathered at the church in Humboldt late Thursday afternoon to decide if the church should continue its affiliation with the United Methodist Church denomination or split.
There was one motion and one action for the congregates. Vote yes, no or abstain to a motion to disaffiliate from the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Abstain meant the voter had no preference or no interest in the motion being asked. For purposes of the vote, abstain was the same as a no vote.

Women of the Spirit of St. Mary’s Catholic Church recently held a flower garden walk on Thursday, June 29 to raise money for St. Mary’s School.
Jenean Smith, chairperson of the event, explained that this is the first time they have held the garden walk.
The flower garden walk included nine different locations, five homes in Humboldt, three homes in Dakota City and the Humboldt County Museum.
Smith’s home, along with her neighbors on each side, Sharon Pflibsen and Joy Kirchhoff were included on the tour.
“It is so nice to have three of us in a row who enjoy having a garden. We share a line of hostas between each of the houses. It’s nice to have someone to help keep those up,” Smith said.
