Public entities and citizens grapple over Reasoner Dam

The Reasoner dam may be overseen by a new entity in the near future after a request by a local non-profit organization during the regular Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday, Sept. 25.
Bret Harklau, the spokesman for the “Save Lake Nokomis” group (SLN) made the request of the supervisors on the heels of the Conservation Board making a request several weeks ago to reconsider option 2 as the most viable option for the dam.
“What we would like to propose to the county is if you would let us take over management of the dam,” Harklau said.
Harklau then laid out the plans the group has in the immediate future for the dam and Lake Nokomis.
“Can we give you the dam to work on? Or take it away from the conservation board and give it to a nonprofit to take care of?" District 5 Supervisor Dave Lee asked.
“It opens up some questions for legality reasons,” Supervisor Rick Pedersen said.

Defining the need for speed for a generation, the Humboldt Modifiers Car Club wasn’t just an outlet for youthful energy. It was a club that had members, rules, a few activities and a love for hot rods and working on cars.
This weekend, some of those old memories will burn bright again when members of the group gather for a reunion and car show in Dakota City on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 2-5 p.m. at Tim and Nick’s Restaurant, 507 Main St.
There will be classic cars along Main Street and inside the restaurant, in the west reception area, there will be photos and memorabilia, a PowerPoint presentation and lots of good conversation.
To find out a little more about the club origins, its reason for being and why people joined, we talked to Kirby Berhow of Milford and Jack Haas and Jerry Moritz of Humboldt. Read about their memories exclusively in this week's Humboldt Independent, your trusted source for local news and sports.
