While state funding is not currently in the offing, a Badger businessman has reiterated his intent on turning the former Humboldt North Care Center into apartment units.
That was the word from Monday night’s Humboldt City Council meeting.
On Monday, the Council confirmed its willingness to provide tax-increment financing (TIF) rebates for a 10-year period as a form of tax incentives. The Council did this by authorizing Mayor Dan Scholl to sign a letter of intent with Paul Butterfield of Badger.
Butterfield has started a limited liability corporation, Humboldt North Apartments, LLC.

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 8-14

Members of the Humboldt Fire Department, front row left to right: Chris Clarken, Matt Newton, Nate Conlon, Clayton Vorland, Tom DeWinter, Zach McKenna, Matt Ubben and Brannon Arends. Back row left to right: Rick Stein, Kim Jensen, Trey Thompson, Chris Ubben, Trent Olsen, Kolton Gillespie, Ross Newton, Jerod Hatcher, Russ Seiler and Jim Gronbach. Other members not pictured: Jeff Bowden, Zachary Sisson and Austin Vitzthum.

The Humboldt Fire Department will be conducting its annual Operation EDITH (Exit Drill In The Home) on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m.
Families are asked to come up with a safe exit strategy from their home at that time and be outside when the fire trucks go by in Humboldt. Fire can spread rapidly through a home, leaving families as little as two minutes to escape safely after a fire alarm sounds. Having an escape plan that everyone in the family is familiar with and has practiced, is vitally important.
During Fire Prevention Week make sure you have an up-to-date and operational fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers should be placed every 30-50 feet in a home and have at least one on each story of the home. Primary living areas, the kitchen and the garage are good places for a fire extinguisher.
