There is no timeline as to how long the investigation might take.
In a prepared statement Murray reported the following: “We are following district policy and procedures to investigate the issue. We can’t comment further as it is a confidential personnel mater.

When it comes to advancing career technical skills, Humboldt Industrial Technology instructor Joel Hanus thought, “why not Humboldt?”
To that end, Hanus contacted the Career and Technical Student Organizations arm of the Iowa Department of Education. After collecting information last year he chartered a Skills USA Chapter for the Humboldt Community School District.
Skills USA is a nationwide organization of more than 395,000 middle school, high school and college students enrolled in trade, technical and skilled service occupational training. The students can attend competitions and earn a chance at rewards and recognitions, as well as learning valuable life skills and making connections and associations with industry partners.

Tyler Vitzthum gets a little emotional as his Grand View University football team pushes their way into post-season.

Vitzthum, a former Humboldt High standout, is in the fifth and final season of his career with the Vikings, a perennial NAIA power from Des Moines.

“I feel really good about how the season is going for myself and for our team. I feel really connected with the coaches and my teammates. We are doing everything we can to put ourselves into position for post-season,” Vitzthum said.

Vitzthum is one of two running backs who get the bulk of the carries each game for the Vikings, who closed out their regular season in a 40-0 victory over Clarke University last Saturday in Dubuque.

Entering their final game at Clarke College, Vitzthum (76 reps for 418 yards) and teammate Avery Gates (72-468) were the leading rushers this season with Dalten Van Pelt (54-238) next in line.

Honors distributed at Wildcat football banquet

On a night which included plenty of emotion, a large crowd was on hand Sunday night to pay tribute to the Humboldt Wildcat football team on the recent 2023 season.

Wildcat sixth-year head coach Derrick Elman and his staff recognized the squad for their growth and success at all three levels of varsity, junior varsity and freshman football.

Elman, who finished his sixth season guiding Humboldt, led Humboldt to an overall record of 5-5, including 3-2 in a rugged Class 3A District 2. Despite heavy graduation losses from the previous two seasons where Humboldt advanced to the state playoff semifinals, the 2023 Wildcats were in the hunt for the district title right up until the final week of the regular season and earned a spot in the playoffs. The Wildcats fell in the first round to No. 2 Williamsburg, which is playing the finals this weekend.

Recipients of the Bad Cat Award, Wildcat football’s highest award, include seniors Corey Dettmann and Grant Dieleman.
