Spirit Lake tops Humboldt boys, 73-68

Evan Hatcher poured in 35 points but it wasn't enough for the Humboldt boys' basketball team as they fell to the Spirit Lake Indians, 73-68 Monday night (Dec. 4) in Spirit Lake.

The Wildcats slipped to 1-1 overall on the season. Dylan Stecker scored 27 points to pace the Indians, who improved to 1-2.

Humboldt returns to action at home on Friday, Dec. 8, against Fort Dodge St. Edmond to begin North Central Conference play.

Mann sets scoring mark, HHS girls top IFA, 63-53

Morgan Mann set a new single-game five-player scoring record with 34 points Friday night (Dec. 1) to power the Humboldt girls' basketball team past the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets, 63-53 in Iowa Falls.

The victory lifted the Wildcats' record to 3-1 overall on the season, 1-0 in North Central Conference play.

The Wildcats return to action at home on Friday, Dec. 9, against Fort Dodge St. Edmond.

Wildcats win Fitch Invitational title

Humboldt crowned four individual champions and totaled 247.5 points to win the team title of their own Joe Fitch Invitational wrestling tournament held Friday evening, Dec. 1, in the Humboldt gym.

The Wildcats totaled 247.5 points to claim the top spot. Emmetsburg was runner-up at 204 while Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center placed third at 173.5. Atlantic was fourth at 172.5 and Kuemper Catholic of Carroll was fifth at 163. Pocahontas Area placed sixth with 127. Forest City was seventh with 122 and Sheldon/South O'Brien was eighth at 84. Van Meter was last with 72.5.

Humboldt's individual champions include Owen Mayall at 120, Type Clarken at 126, Brody Hendricks at 175 and Gaige Allen at 190.
