Humboldt announces auditorium fundraiser

By PHIL MONSON
The Humboldt Community School District has announced the start of a nearly $1 million fundraising project to make improvements to R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium.

The auditorium, which was constructed in 1980-81, is a facility used by both the school district and the community.

“This isn’t just a school auditorium, but it’s a community auditorium with many events and activities taking place there,” Humboldt School Superintendent Jim Murray said. “There are many activities and events that take place in the auditorium.”

“Our goal is to get 600 seats sponsored for $600 apiece. We’ll put the person’s name on the seat. We’ll also put a dedication slide in our lobby kiosk that can include the photo of the person who the seat is dedicated to and it can also include an inspiring message or a dedication.”

EUGENE R. CODY

Eugene Richard Cody, known to most as “Gene,” passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2024, at the age of 91 in Beaverton, OR. Born on Aug. 6, 1933, in the small town of Humboldt, Gene was the youngest of five children to Walter Scott Cody and Mae Gladys Kinkade Cody. Growing up in small-town Iowa was Gene’s playground, where he had the run of the place—swimming in the rock quarry, biking around town with friends, and embracing the kind of carefree freedom only kids back then truly got to enjoy.
