City expects 10-cent per $1,000 tax hike for minimal property tax increase

By KENT THOMPSON

That was the word from city of Humboldt public officials following the Humboldt City Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The meeting was one day later than usual in the month, due to the Presidents Day holiday Feb. 16.

WEATHER: Winter Weather Advisory issued for Humboldt County

The weather has been unseasonably warm the past few days, making it feel like spring has already sprung. But this is Iowa after all, and we all know that she can be a bit temperamental. It seems winter is not done with us yet - snow is back in the forecast with the National Weather Service issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for Humboldt and neighboring counties. Here's what we know;

Precipitation will spread from western into central Iowa on Thursday afternoon and evening. Initially, it may begin as rain or a rain/snow mix before changing to snow. Light to moderate snow accumulations are expected by Friday morning, but a narrow band of heavier snowfall is expected with amounts quickly decreasing on either side of the band. Snow rates may near or exceed 1" per hour at times, leading to quickly accumulating snow on roads and slick travel conditions. A small change in the location of the band could alter forecast snow amounts.
