Wildcat wrestlers down Clear Lake (36-30), fall to Webster City (37-18)

There's now a 3-way tie for first-place in the North Central Conference wrestling dual standings after Humboldt tangled with Webster City and Clear Lake Thursday night (Jan. 9) in the Webster City gym.The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season when they fell to Webster City, 37-18 in the final bout of the night. Clear Lake defeated Webster City 35-32 in the first bout of the night then Humboldt beat Clear Lake, 36-30. All three schools are now tied at 5-1 atop the NCC dual team standings. Humboldt is 14-1 overall on the season.Against Webster City, the Wildcats lost some key matches when No. 2 ranked Reed Dreyer was edged by Dylan Fielder (No. 5) at 195 pounds, 3-2. Humboldt's No. 2 ranked Dylan Hendricks lost 4-2 to Gavin Dinsdale (No. 4) at 285. Nikko Wheeler, ranked No. 3 for HHS at 170, lost 4-3 to No. 5 ranked Connor Larson. At 182, Adam Mickelson fell to Brandon Patten, 6-2 in the final bout of the night.Against Clear Lake, the Wildcats' Mickelson beat No. 5 ranked Connor Nosbisch, 6-5. Dreyer, Cordes Olthoff (220), Hendricks, Levi Sawyer (106), Austen Gargano (126), Thaylan Bowman (152) and Wheeler all recorded victories. Gargano and Sawyer were both unbeaten on the night.Humboldt will compete in the Ames Invitational on Jan. 11 and visit Fort Dodge St. Edmond on Jan. 16.
